About The Project
The solar project would be located in Township 14 South, Range 66 East, Sections 29, 30 and 31 Mount Diablo Meridian, Nevada. For the purposes of this EIS, the “Analysis Area” will include approximately 900 acres of land entirely located on the Moapa River Indian Reservation; the corridors for the transmission interconnection (gen-tie) line located on the Reservation, on Federal land managed by the BLM, and possibly private lands; and a water pipeline located on the Reservation. The portion of the gen-tie located on BLM lands would be in Section 5 of Township 15 South, Range 66 East.
The Project would utilize photovoltaic (PV) solar technology and would generate up to 100 MW of energy. The PV project would include PV panels on fixed-tilt or single-axis tracking systems, inverters, and an operation and maintenance building. Construction of the Project is expected to take 12 months and it is expected to have a project life of 25 years. The water supply required for the project would be supplied by water leased from the Moapa Band and delivered to the solar site via a pipeline on the Reservation.
A single overhead 230 kilovolt (kV) transmission line would connect the solar project to either a new NV Energy collector substation that would be located on BLM-administered lands near the existing Reid-Gardner Substation, or to the NVE’s existing Reid-Gardner Substation. This line would be approximately 1.9 to 2.1 miles long with about 0.7 miles located on BLM-administered land. Access to the site would be via Highway 168 which runs through the site.
